The first thing you should know, is there are two types of logins we use on campus, the UCD Login and the LAWR Login.

UCD Login and Kerberos Password

The UCD Login offers a dearth of campus services (email, library access, general computer lab access, etc) and is offered to:

• Students
• Faculty
• Staff
• Researchers
• Temporary Affiliates

Here you can choose Get Your UCDavis Computing Account and follow the on-screen prompts to acquire your Login ID and Password.

If your paperwork hasn't gotten through the system yet, but you have your papers (PAF) and a photo ID, take a trip to IT Express at Shields Library.  They can also get your account and email for you.

If you are a Temporary Affiliate, meaning a visiting scholar, researcher, or professor, you may also receive a UCD Login with the correct authorization.  Download and fill out the Temporary Affiliate Form, acquire a signature from the person sponsoring you and either LAWR's MSO or Chair.  Take the completed form to IT Express in Shields Library to receive your Login ID and campus e-mail.

LAWR Login and Password

The Normal Account
Since we can't have just any campus affiliate logging into LAWR computers for general use, LAWR has its own Login and Password.  This login gains you user-level access to most LAWR computers.  You can run most applications, have access to a central file server to store your files, and check your email.

This normal account is acquired by contacting LAWR IT.  You can either stop by our offices at 113 Veihmeyer Hall during normal business hours (8-5 PM with a noon break for lunch) or email us at lawrit@ucdavis.edu.  We generally ask you to come to our office either way to enter your password, though the email is useful in scheduling an appointment as we aren't always in the office.

There is another LAWR login called the "zero account" because we take your normal username and add a zero to the front.  Your login jsmith becomes 0jsmith.  This is an entirely separate account from your normal account, but allows administrator access to your local computer, allowing you to install programs, install USB hardware, and make system changes. 

By design, it prevents you from accessing your server drives or printers.  This is an account you use irregularly, only for specific tasks (installing software is the main one).  It requires your PI's authorization by e-mail or phone: ask your PI to send us an email granting you access to your computer.
